A whole body composition scale, also known as a body mass scale provides detailed information about your total body composition. Professional body composition scales will measure or calculate certain basic information, such as total body weight, percent body fat, percent lean mass, percent body water, body mass index (BMI), resting metabolism, and other critical health factors related to total body composition. This information is usefulness to health.
How does body composition scale work? You first remove your shoes and socks and step onto the weighting platform. The provider will enter basic information like age, height, and gender. You then grab a pair of handles and an undetectable electric current is sent throughout the entire body, allowing for the calculation of the whole body composition. A report is generated which will provide your current weight, total body fat, percentage body water, fat free mass (portion of the body composed of muscle, bones, organs and fluids) and body mass index (BMI). The report will also provide your target, resting energy expenditure (the amount of energy, required for a 24-hour period by the body during resting conditions) and your daily caloric needs based on activity level.
